Now it looks as though CenturyLink is still interested in the idea and is not only talking with AT&T’s DIRECTV NOW.
On Wednesday CenturyLink’s CEO Glen Post said that it is talking with several live TV streaming services.
“Matter of fact, we continually talk with some of these other providers, look at the best ways we can bring that service and also other ways in working with them to reduce our content cost,” Post said during the earnings call. “It does not have to be our product.”
Most likely CenturyLink is talking with services such as fuboTV, PlayStation Vue, and maybe even Sling TV. Recently it was announced that both fuboTV and PlayStation Vue had teamed up with smaller cable companies to become their streaming service. It is possible they could do the same with CenturyLink.
According to CenturyLink it lost about 21,000 Prism TV customers continuing a slow decline in its pay-TV service. When talking about the future of CenturyLink’s TV service Post said it is “deemphasize[ing] that product because of the margin issue of the higher content cost.”
So the question now maybe how long until CenturyLink does away with its Prism TV. Maybe not soon but it seems to be moving in that direction.
