This week it was reported that CenturyLink will join the growing list of services that want to offer a live TV option to cord cutters, but CenturyLink has gone as far as to talk about possibly replacing its Prisma TV service with a streaming version.
“We are still in the process of technically trialing the product in four markets,” Maxine Moreau, CenturyLink’s president of consumer markets, said this week on the company’s Q1 earnings call.
Now we have a rough timeline for the launch: mid-to-late Summer 2017.
“It’s going well. We do plan to launch the service in early next quarter… We’ll evaluate the pricing strategy, the packaging strategy and then we will phase-in the launch over the rest of the year,” she said.
That means cord cutters will soon be able to pick from a growing list of live TV services including Sling TV, PlayStation Vue, Fubo TV, DIRECTV NOW, Hulu Beta, YouTube TV, and soon Comcast along with Verizon.
That is eight live TV streaming services now on the market or soon to be on the market with more in the works. Long gone are the days that you could only pick between two or three live TV options. Now companies such as CenturyLink and DIRECTV have to fight to get the attention of cord cutters.
