CBS has had great success with their free news streaming service CBSN. Now they are announcing plans to give more attention to CBSN in an effort to attract more viewers.

“We have seen a younger audience with an average age of 38 join our digital-news platform. They are hungry for a product that is more focused on knowledge than opinion, and delivers new information to them on topics they have not seen covered elsewhere,” says Christy Tanner, senior vice president and general manager of CBS News Digital, in an interview. “The lesson of the last two years in really that the idea that the news consumer is aging and sitting back in their La-Z-Boy, being targeted by certain kinds of ads, is simply not true.”

CBS plans to bring CBSN to more digital properties including CBS’s subscription service CBS All Access.

CBS is not stopping at expanding the reach of CBSN, they also plan to launch new programming on CBSN to help improve the lineup.

CBS is hoping to build off of the success of CBSN by launching similar free services for CBS Sports in 2018 and their entertainment show ET in 2019.
