Depressed mature man holding paper and looking at it while sitting on the couch at homeFor many years now cable TV companies have been cramming in as many fees as they possibly can. One of the most annoying fees is the Broadcast TV Fee, a fee that cable companies say is used to offset the cost of local TV. (Something you could get for free with an antenna.)

The most recent cable fee hike comes from WOW with a jump from $10.40 a month to $12.65 a month for its Broadcast TV Fee starting June 1, 2017. This new fee price hike was spotted by WOW subscribers and posted on the DSLReports forums.

Here is the message WOW is sending subscribers:

“Effective June 1, 2017, the Broadcast TV Fee will increase $2.25 per month. This fee offsets some of the retransmission costs WOW! must pay to broadcast stations.”

The tough part about this fee is the fact that you are paying for something that is free with no way around it. As far as we know there is no way to opt-out of broadcast TV channels that you can get for free with an antenna.

There is still time for you to cancel cable TV and become a cord cutter to avoid all of these fees that cable TV companies like to pile on. Some of these fees can add up to over $50 a month now for Comcast subscribers.

Why are they called hidden fees? Because they are not part of the advertised pricing you see prominently displayed in ads. You need to read the fine print to find many of the hidden fees.
