Today Britbox the streaming services from BBC Studio and ITV announced a new partnership with Jeff Pope to produce new original programming.

With this deal, BritBox announced two originals they are currently working on. First The Barking Murders (working title), written by Neil McKay. In this compelling factual drama, the narrative’s focus is placed squarely on the families of the victims of convicted serial killer, Stephen Port. Starring Emmy® Award winner Stephen Merchant (Extras, The Office) as Stephen Port, and co-starring award-winning actress Sheridan Smith (The Moorside, The Huntsman: Winter’s War). Jeff Pope is also the writer/creator of The Hatton Garden Heist, which is the second BritBox original collaboration with Pope, a drama starring Timothy Spall (Mr. Turner, Harry Potter).

“Throughout the past year BritBox has continued to thrive in an increasingly competitive space,” said BritBox President Soumya Sriraman. “Our service has the right mix of one-of-a-kind originals, unrivaled British talent, and an enviable library of classics that proves even in a field dominated by Goliaths, David still has a shot.”

BritBox , home to the largest collection of streaming British content in both countries, has doubled the number of available hours since launch, exceeding 4,600 episodes of British programming; has premiered at least one key title every week; and is committed to a 50% increase in original and acquired programming investment for the upcoming year. Recently Britbox announced that they have hit 500,000 subscribers.
