The Sandman is joining the selective ranks of Netflix shows to get a physical release. Season one of the Netflix original series will be available in 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray, and DVD on November 28 after a digital release on September 18, according to Movie Web. Netflix confirmed that the physical copies will also include behind the scenes bonus features like The Sandman: Behind the Scenes Sneak Peek and The World of The Endless.
Netflix Originals have come to DVD before because the streaming service might not own the core rights to some shows and movies, according to What’s On Netflix. Some originals that were particularly popular like The Crown and Orange is the New Black were also granted physical releases. The Criterion Collection has released a handful of Netflix Originals including Academy Award winning movies Marriage Story and Roma.
The Sandman released its 10-episode first season last August and was met with praise from viewers and critics. Releasing the series in a physical format shows that Netflix is proud of it and wants more people to watch it. A physical release might even draw in new subscribers ahead of season two, which is currently on hold due to the Hollywood writers and SAG-AFTRA strike.
The Sandman, based on a comic series by Neil Gaiman, follows Morpheus, or Dream, on his quest to reclaim his realm after being held captive for 106 years. The show features the acting talents of Tom Sturridge, Patton Oswald, Jenna Coleman and Gwendolyn Christie.
Netflix confirmed that The Sandman will be available for digital purchase on platforms like Amazon Prime Video, AppleTV, Google Play and Vudu. You can purchase season one of The Sandman on Digital UHD for $25, 4K Ultra HD for $45, Blu-ray for $30 and DVD for $25.
