BBC Studios and BBC News have launched a new mobile app, aimed at revolutionizing how global audiences access BBC’s journalism and storytelling. This app, which replaces the International BBC News app, goes hand-in-hand with the recent overhaul of BBC.com, first introduced in North America last December and now available globally. This revamped digital offering presents a premium, sustainable commercial platform enhanced with ad tech improvements, opening new avenues for advertisers.

Here’s how the BBC describes the new app:

  • New Home Screen: Combining the most significant global news stories with timely, relevant features, curated by BBC editors, the home screen serves as a gateway to the world’s events.
  • New Look, Same Trusted News: The app encourages deeper exploration into global happenings, with comprehensive coverage found under the News section. The World section further categorizes news by region, including Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East.
  • New Sections: Expanding beyond traditional news, the app introduces sections for Culture, Innovation, and Earth, alongside continuing strong coverage in Sport, Business, and Travel.
  • More BBC Videos: A dedicated Video section boasts an extensive library of BBC content, ranging from news updates to in-depth stories on climate, science, health, and more.
  • More Live Coverage: Enhanced live coverage sections make it easier for users to find real-time updates on news and global sports events.
  • Up-to-the-Minute Breaking News Alerts and Newsletters: Users can subscribe to receive breaking news notifications and a variety of newsletters, including The News Briefing and Tech Decoded.

Developed by BBC Studios’ Global Media & Streaming division, the BBC app aims to make the corporation’s content more accessible worldwide, reflecting a commitment to digital innovation. This approach not only improves the user experience but also benefits advertising partners with premium ad placements and advanced targeting capabilities. The app is part of the BBC’s broader digital transformation efforts, underscoring its investment in global news delivery and reinforcing its status as the world’s most trusted news broadcaster.
