You don’t have to be a Barbie Girl in a Barbie World to enjoy the streaming debut of Barbie when it arrives on Max. On Friday, December 15, at 3 a.m. ET (midnight PT), Max subscribers will be able to stream Barbie, as well as an American Sign Language interpretation of the film.

After conducting research and obtaining feedback from the Deaf community, Max produced Barbie with ASL featuring ASL Performer Leila Hanaumi. The unique presentation will be easily identifiable in the app by the sign language symbol in its key art. To celebrate the release of the ASL version, Margot Robbie (Barbie) will host a special community screening on December 14 in Los Angeles in collaboration with Deaf West Theatre. The news comes on International day of Persons with Disabilities, which focuses on increasing accessibility to all.

After Barbie arrived in theaters on July 21, 2023, it made history by becoming Warner Bros.’s highest-grossing global release in the studio’s 100-year history. Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film became the 15th highest-grossing film of all time and the highest-grossing film by a female director. The pink blockbuster continued its success when it became available to watch on VOD back in September.

Opposite of Robbie’s Barbie, Ryan Gosling played the role of Ken, as the pair embarked on a journey of self-discovery after an existential crisis. Gerwig and Noah Baumbach are credited as screenwriters with America Ferrara, Kate McKinnon, Issa Rae, Will Farrel, and Rhea Pearlman rounding out the supporting cast.

Since its inception, Max has been a premium streaming service and in October expanded into the world of live sports. It was reported that the platform will offer live NASCAR races beginning in 2025. December is a busy month for Max, as Barbie joins a massive list of titles that are coming to the streamer in December. With the addition of these titles, some of your favorites will be leaving the platform, and you can check out everything leaving Max in December before it is too late.
