Diamond Sports Group, the owner of a vast network of regional sports channels, and FanDuel, a leading online gaming company, have joined forces in a sweeping commercial partnership that will significantly reshape the sports media landscape. This collaboration will bring a new name and a host of integrated features to Diamond’s 16 regional sports networks (RSNs).
Starting October 21st, Bally Sports RSNs will be rebranded as FanDuel Sports Network, with regional variations like FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and FanDuel Sports Network Florida. This change reflects FanDuel’s exclusive naming rights across Diamond’s entire portfolio, including its digital platforms and direct-to-consumer (DTC) products.
“Collaborating with FanDuel provides a tremendous pathway for Diamond to elevate the fan experience and deepen the incremental value we provide for our team, league and distribution partners,” said David Preschlack, CEO of Diamond.
The partnership extends beyond naming rights, encompassing a range of initiatives designed to enhance the fan experience and capitalize on the growing convergence of sports and online gaming:
- Media Integration: FanDuel will have prominent placement and integration opportunities across all live NBA, NHL, and MLB games broadcast on FanDuel Sports Network.
- Unified DTC App: The companies are exploring the development of a unified DTC app that would combine live sports streaming with FanDuel TV programming, including popular shows like “Up & Adams” and “Run It Back.”
- Reseller Agreement: FanDuel will become a reseller of Diamond’s DTC product, expanding its reach and offering fans a seamless way to access live sports content.
Mike Raffensperger, President of Sports at FanDuel, highlighted the strategic value of the partnership: “Partnering with Diamond provides us an opportunity to put the FanDuel brand at the intersection of the nation’s largest group of regional sports networks.”
This alliance comes at a crucial time for Diamond Sports Group, which has been navigating bankruptcy proceedings. The company recently finalized agreements with the NBA and NHL, ensuring the continuation of game broadcasts.
Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed. However, the partnership represents a significant step for both companies, aiming to leverage their respective strengths to capture a larger share of the sports and entertainment market.
This collaboration is poised to transform the way fans engage with their favorite teams and leagues. By integrating live sports, online gaming, and interactive content, FanDuel and Diamond Sports Group are creating a new paradigm for sports entertainment.
