Today it was announced that the hit 1990s sci-fi show Babylon 5 is getting a new movie, and this time it will be animated.

Details are thin but creator J. Michael Straczynski says he will announce the release date, title, and more one week from today.

This is reportedly not the reboot of the show that was announced for the CW. For now, that project seems to be on hold as the new CW owners Nexstar decided what to do with the show or if Warner Bros. Discovery will move it the new Max streaming service.

There have been reports that some of the original cast will return to do the voice work for this new Babylon 5 animated movie. We do know J. Michael Straczynski has hinted that the original cast is apart of a special Babylon 5 project. He has also hinted that he has created rolls for the original cast in the new reboot if they want them.

Here is how IMDb describes the classic Babylon 5 show:

In the mid-23rd Century, the Earth Alliance space station Babylon 5, located in neutral territory, is a major focal point for political intrigue, racial tensions, religious disputes and various wars over the course of five years.

Creator J. Michael Straczynski’s ambitious and complex futuristic space opera charts five years in the lives of those aboard the titular five-mile-long space station, where personal drama plays out against a tense political backdrop of looming war between bitter enemies the Centauri and the Narn.

If you want to get caught up on the original show, it is now streaming for free on Tubi and The Roku Channel after it recently left HBO Max.

This comes as Warner Bros. Discovery earlier this year announced deals with The Roku Channel and Tubi to bring their content to the free streaming service. This deal will bring a huge catalog of content to both services.
