Directv now beta box

Directv now beta boxToday AT&T started to contact DIRECTV NOW beta testers (now called AT&T TV NOW) about an update to their Android TV powered beta box. (This is the box that will be used for AT&T TV when it launches.) According to the email the Android TV powered beta box now has expanded Google Assistant controls including changing your channel, turning on and off captions, along with finding something to watch all with using your voice.

AT&T’s streaming player has had Google Assitant since it launched but now AT&T has expanded the Google Assistant integration to include even more voice controls. It has been reported that this new box will be the backbone of AT&T’s new live TV streaming service AT&T TV. (Not to be confused with AT&T TV NOW as they are two different streaming services.)

Here are the features AT&T promoted in its email to beta testers today:

1Additional third-party apps, services and equipment may be required.
2Google login required. 3HBO® subscription required to watch Ballers®.
