AT&T yesterday gave an update on a plan to eliminate dead areas by using a combination of towers and satellites powered by AST to offer wireless phone service to all phones from space.

This satellite network AT&T is building is designed to work with any cellphone and will make sure you can use your phone even if you are not near a tower.

Maybe one of the most exciting parts of this new AT&T network will be the ability to always have your phone work even if a natural disaster, for example, damages the towers in your area.

AT&T is not alone in these plans T-Mobile is also partnering with SpaceX’s Starlink service to offer, at first text messaging from space and later calling and data from space.

Still, no word on when T-Mobile and AT&T will start to offer service from space but doing so could finally eliminate most dead spots in service.
