AT&T is Working on a Friends Reunion Special for HBO MAX

Back in November, we shared the news about rumors of a Friends reunion special in the works for HBO Max. At that time, there were mixed messages, with Jennifer Anniston hinting at a reunion on the Ellen DeGeneres Show, but the show’s original producers denying the rumors.

“We will not be doing a reunion show, we will not be doing a reboot,” said co-creator/executive producer Marta Kauffman at the Tribeca TV Festival in September. “The show was about that time in life when friends are your family,” she explained, adding that life changes when your family becomes your family.

“We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it,” added co-creator/executive producer David Crane.

Now, Deadline has reported that a reunion special is back on the table, with all six stars of the series on board. Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry have reportedly reached an agreement that will give them each a $3-4 million paycheck for the special. Co-creators and executive producers Marta Kauffman and David Crane are also expected to have a part in the special.

After being removed from Netflix at the beginning of this year, Friends will play a big part in drawing subscribers in for HBO Max when the streaming service launches this May. HBO Max paid $425 to have exclusive streaming rights to the series.

The reunion special that fans have now been speculating over for months would be a great way to kick off the launch of the service and build up even more excitement for the return of the series to streaming.
