During the call, Apple CFO Luca Maestri mentioned that there would be trial periods available, nothing that “the road to monetization takes some time.” Maestri also said that Apple TV+ would contribute to Apple’s current 40 million subscriber count for its services business, including Apple Music, iTunes, Apple Pay, and iCloud. These comments seem to imply that Apple TV+ will be a paid service for all customers.
Originally, industry analysts were reporting that Apple TV+ would likely be a free add-on for those with an Apple TV streaming device and the Apple TV app.
In the call, Apple reported a $53.8 billion revenue and a net quarterly profit of $11.5 billion. This was the highest revenue ever for the June quarter. Wearables and services contributed greatly to these numbers, with Maestri specifically listing Apple Card, Apple Arcade, and Apple TV+ as three services that would be building on that momentum going forward.
We don’t have an official launch date for Apple TV+ but Apple commented again that the streaming service is set to launch this fall.
