Today Apple announced Fitness+, a personalized fitness experience designed for Apple Watch that links directly to iPhone, iPad or Apple TV for a “first-of-its-kind personalized workout experience.” With at-home workouts and equipment linked apps like Peloton skyrocketing this year, Apple is throwing its hat into the fitness ring with this new launch set to happen by the end of 2020.

“We’re so excited to energize our customers with new ways to get active and stay active with Apple Watch,” said Jay Blahnik, Apple’s senior director of fitness for Health Technologies. “With diverse studio workouts that are suitable for all ability levels, led by a phenomenal group of unique trainers, and an approachable program designed for beginners all the way through to the fitness enthusiast — as well as the flexibility to work out anywhere — there’s something for everyone. We know Fitness+ will take working out with Apple Watch to the next level with unparalleled engagement, convenience, and inspiration.”

Fitness+ will recommend workouts to users based on what you’ve already completed before, taking levels and difficulty into account. When you select a workout on your Apple TV, iPhone or iPad, the same workout will automatically begin on your Apple watch. The metrics from your watch will then appear on the screen tracking heart rate and performance.

At launch, Apple Fitness+ will be available in the US, Canada, Ireland, the UK, and Australia. The service will be available to Apple Watch users for a subscription price of $9.99 per month or $79.99 per year with a 30 day trial. Customers will be able to share their Fitness+ subscription with up to five other people in their family with Family Sharing.

Three months of Apple Fitness+ are included for customers who purchase Apple Watch Series 3 or later, starting September 15, 2020.

Starting today, those who buy an eligible Apple Watch from Best Buy will get six months free of Fitness+. Current My Best Buy members who already own a qualifying Apple Watch will receive two months for free.

CVS is also offering a deal for customers. CVS Caremark members can get up to one year of free Apple Fitness+. CVS Pharmacy ExtraCare members can get two months of free membership, as part of a partnership between Aetna, a CVS Health company, and Apple.
