This week, we learned that another cable television provider, WOW!, is phasing out its proprietary streaming live TV service and directing all customers toward YouTube TV as the new standard for live television content. This move to YouTube TV started all the way back in 2023, with WOW!’s traditional cable TV customers moving to YouTube TV. Legacy customers on its streaming service will be moving over to YouTube TV at some point if they have not done so already, as part of a phased rollout, with some customers losing their TV service as it is shutting down in April 2026. Now though WOW! is also shutting down its streaming TV service that was meant to take on services like Fubo and Sling TV as it is moving customers to YouTube TV.
Effective immediately, every new residential customer who signs up for video service through WOW! will automatically be provided with YouTube TV as the company’s designated television offering. This change eliminates the option for new subscribers to access the previous in-house streaming platform.
For those already subscribed to WOW! TV+, the dedicated streaming platform operated by the company, the transition to YouTube TV is underway. The migration process for these existing customers is progressing steadily, with full completion anticipated on or around June 30, 2026, when the service will shut down.
Meanwhile, legacy WOW TV customers who continue to rely on traditional cable-based television services rather than the streaming option will experience a more phased approach to the change. The company plans to transition these users gradually, although no definitive completion date has been established for this segment of the customer base and it may depend on where you live.
By leveraging YouTube TV’s robust infrastructure, which includes hundreds of live channels covering news, sports, movies, and local programming, WOW! aims to deliver enhanced value to its subscribers. Customers can expect features such as unlimited cloud DVR storage, simultaneous streaming on multiple devices, and personalized recommendations, all integrated seamlessly with their existing WOW! broadband internet services for optimal performance.
This move also comes amid broader industry trends where traditional cable providers are increasingly forming alliances with major streaming platforms to remain relevant in an era dominated by cord-cutting and on-demand viewing.
