Amazon is giving its e-reader lineup a productivity-powered upgrade with the launch of the all-new Kindle Scribe and the first color version, Kindle Scribe Colorsoft. Available in the U.S. beginning today, December 10, the new Scribe models bring faster performance, AI-powered features, and a sleek new design that feels more like writing on paper than ever before.
At just 5.4mm thick and weighing 400 grams, both versions are thinner, lighter, and 40% faster than previous Scribe models, offering quicker page turns and a smoother writing experience. The redesigned 11-inch glare-free display uses texture-molded glass to mimic the friction of pen on paper, while the new quad-core processor and improved display stack minimize parallax and improve responsiveness.
Color Comes to Kindle
The Kindle Scribe Colorsoft is Amazon’s first color-writing Kindle and introduces a soft, eye-friendly display designed to deliver vibrant yet gentle hues. Thanks to Amazon’s custom-built Colorsoft display technology, which uses nitride LEDs and a dedicated color filter, the device offers a color experience that’s easier on the eyes than traditional LCD screens. Whether you’re annotating PDFs or sketching ideas, the rendering engine ensures everything from writing to highlighting remains fluid and natural.
Amazon is also emphasizing creativity, with 10 pen colors and five highlighter options, along with a new shader tool that allows for gradients and subtle shading. In many ways, it is ideal for artists and visual note-takers.
AI-Powered Notebooks and Smarter Tools
Beyond hardware, Amazon is supercharging the Kindle experience with AI tools aimed at increasing productivity. The new Scribe software includes natural-language search across notes, AI-generated summaries, and the ability to ask follow-up questions. An upcoming “Send to Alexa+” feature will allow users to send documents to Alexa and receive conversational feedback.
Other upgrades include enhanced integration with Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive, allowing seamless import/export of documents, plus new organizational features like folders and a revamped Home view with Quick Notes. You can even export notes to Microsoft OneNote either as text or embedded images.
Everything You Love About Kindle With More
Both versions of Kindle Scribe include a battery-free pen that magnetically attaches to the device and never needs charging. As always, you’ll get access to Amazon’s Kindle Store and receive a three-month Kindle Unlimited subscription with your purchase.
Amazon is also expanding its AI reading tools. The new “Story So Far” feature helps you catch up on where you left off (without spoilers) while “Ask this Book” lets readers interact with specific passages for deeper understanding. These features will roll out to select Kindle titles in the U.S. and later expand to the Kindle iOS app and Kindle devices in early 2026.
