Later this month, Amazon has a big device event coming, and now we have a good idea of what they will be announcing. Recently, Amazon got FCC approval for two new Fire TV sticks. Details are still very thin, but AFTVnews.com spotted these listings, and there are a few things we learned.
According to the filings, one device will support the WiFi 6 standard, and the other will support the WiFi 6E standard the newest standard on the market. This likely points to a stand Fire TV Stick and a higher-end model. It’s likely to be a new Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max or something along those lines.
The current Fire TV Stick 4K Max was released back in early October 2021. With Amazon’s history of updating Fire TV models every two years or so it should be expected that the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is very likely to be getting a new refresh in 2023.
This lines up with the recent sales on the Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max being on sale most of the summer.
Amazon also has its Fire TV Stick 4K on sale for $24.99, but for the extra $2, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is a better option.
Recently, Amazon announced a September 20, 2023, event for new devices. This date was announced by Amazon’s Senior Vice President of Devices and Services, David Limp, who posted this save-the-date announcement:
“The Devices & Services team has already had a very busy year, and now that Amazon’s HQ2 is officially open, it only feels right to gather there in a few months to share a bit more of what we’ve been working on. Mark your calendar for 9/20 for some news from us!”
It seems very likely these new Fire TVs will be announced at this event.
What should we expect from a new Fire TV Stick 4K?
Amazon has done a great job this year keeping its new models from leaking early. Though if history is any clue, there are three things you should look for from a new Fire TV in 2023.
First, better WiFi is something you should be looking for. When Amazon announced the Fire TV Stick 4K Max WiFi 6 was the biggest addition. Now in 2023, it’s very likely we could see that upgraded to the new WiFi 6E standard.
The second thing to look for is improved performance in the form of improved RAM and/or CPU performance. Right now, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is one of the most powerful streaming sticks on the market. It wouldn’t take much of a power increase to have it really stand out.
Lastly, look for upgrades to the Fire TV remote. Look for maybe some features from their upgraded remote to become standard on the Fire TV Sticks.
