Amazon Makes More Shows 100% Free with Ads…

vogue_the-fashion-fund-video-series-2012-episode-1It was only about a month ago that Amazon made their first show 100% free even if you did not have a Prime membership. You could watch every episode of “The Fashion Fund,” a realty show, for free.

Now even more shows are being added to the “Free with Ads” plan that Amazon seems suddenly very dedicated to. The shows include Comedy All-Stars, reality TV, cop shows, and superheroes.

Yet there is a downside: there is no way to buy the shows without ads. Even if you are a Prime member these shows all include ads no matter what.

This is not the first time Amazon has given away shows for free. They have a long history of offering the first episode for free to tempt you into buying the show. Now they are even going back and adding older shows like “ROOTS” and “Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman” to the first episode free program.

Both of these programs make sense for Amazon and cord cutters because many of these shows probably would never be made if it was not for the ads that support them. Also the first episode free program allows cord cutters to test out new shows long before they decide if they want to buy them. Nothing is more painful than paying for a show just to find out you hate it.

Hopefully Amazon keeps experimenting with ad-supported free content because many have dreamed of an Amazon Video service with the option of free with ads or an ad-free payment option.
