Amazon is Reportedly Testing Automatic Commercial Skipping On The Fire TV Recast DVR

fire recastNext week Amazon is holding a big event to announce new hardware. Today though it seems Amazon may have started to test a new feature for their Fire TV Recast DVR according to reports from Cord Cutters News readers. Reports are beginning to come in that Amazon has updated some Fire TV Recast DVRs to automatically skip commercials in recordings but only on a handful of Fire TV Recast DVRs.

Earlier this year the Tablo DVR rolled out automatic commercial skipping, and Tivo has reportedly also been working on the feature. Now it seems that Amazon is looking to add the functionality to their Fire TV Recast DVR to help it compete.

Amazon has a history of rolling new features out first to a small number of users so they can test out the functionality before it goes live. Just this week Amazon announced that they are testing a new screensaver with a small number of users before it would roll out to all Fire TV owners. Now according to reports, it seems that automatic commercial skipping is also being tested by a small number of Fire TV Recast owners.

Now Amazon could still pull the plug on this feature before it rolls out to all Fire TV Recast owners. Bugs and other issues could cause Amazon to delay the rollout or cancel the feature altogether.
