Do you want Amazon’s on-demand streaming service with access to live events like NFL Thursday Night Football but don’t want to pay the full price? Amazon is reportedly looking into launching an ad-supported version of Prime Video.

This comes from a report over at The Wall Street Journal that says Amazon is planning to launch and ad-supported tier for Prime Video. This version of Prime, though, won’t give you free shipping but just the Prime Video side of things.

Currently, Amazon Prime with free shipping, Prime Video, and more costs $139 a year or $14.99 a month. If you just want Prime Video, you can get that for $8.99 a month. This new cheaper plan will reportedly be an even better deal, but without all the other stuff the $14.99 a month plan offers.

This comes as a growing number of services offer cheaper ad-supported plans, including Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, Peacock, Max, and more.

Amazon is also in talks with Paramount, Max, and other services about offering the ad-supported plans of their service through Prime Video Channels. Currently, only the ad-free version of these services is offered by Amazon.

According to The Wall Street Journal, plans for this cheaper Prime Video option are still early. Amazon could walk away from the plan if the numbers don’t work out.

Amazon reportedly spent about $7 billion on new Amazon originals in 2022. This comes as Amazon looks for their next must-watch Prime Video show or movie to help drive subscriptions. Without that, Amazon is hoping a cheaper option may help grow subscribers.

So now the question is would you pay, let us say $4.99 a month just for Prime Video or would you rather pay $14.99 a month for all Amazon has to offer with Amazon Prime? Let us know what you think of this and Prime Video.
