Amazon has sparked frustration among Fire TV users with a recent software update that removes the ability to hide apps. This change, which affects both pre-installed and user-downloaded apps, has been met with criticism for cluttering the interface and limiting user control.
Previously, Fire TV users could hide apps they didn’t use, keeping their app list organized and tailored to their preferences. This feature was particularly useful for households with multiple user profiles, allowing each user to customize their app library. However, the latest update eliminates this functionality, forcing users to see all installed apps, regardless of their usage as spotted by AFTVnews.
The removal of the “hide apps” feature marks a reversal of a user-friendly update introduced five years ago alongside the current Fire TV interface redesign. At that time, Amazon added user profiles and the ability to hide apps to declutter the interface and enhance personalization.
While the initial update was well-received, this latest change has been met with disappointment from users who valued the ability to curate their app list and maintain a clean interface.
The removal of the “hide apps” option has been confirmed on both older and newer Fire TV Stick models, suggesting that this change is being rolled out across all Fire TV devices. Users who can still hide apps on their devices are likely to lose this functionality once they receive the latest forced software update from Amazon.
Amazon has not yet officially addressed the user concerns regarding this update. It remains to be seen whether the company will reconsider its decision or offer alternative solutions to address the issues raised by users.
In the meantime, Fire TV users will have to adjust to the new interface and find ways to manage the cluttered app list. This change highlights the challenges faced by users as tech companies continually update their software and devices, sometimes removing features that were previously valued and relied upon.
