Angry Birds

Amazon recently announced a new avian animated series based on everyone’s favorite bird-flinging mobile game is in the works. Angry Birds: Mystery Island is an Amazon Prime original series spanning 24 episodes featuring hatchlings Mia, Rosie, Buddy, and foreign exchange piglet Hamylton. The four attempt to go on an island getaway, but unfortunately are sent flying into a strange island and must uncover secrets to get back home.

On Twitter yesterday, Angry Birds creator Rovio Entertainment said:

“Get ready to venture into uncharted territory. An all-new Amazon Original series takes us to parts unknown, somewhere in the Angry Birds world. What secrets does this island hold, and who will be there to unravel them?”

The Angry Birds game debuted in 2009 and was an instant hit with mobile gamers, who found catapulting birds to take down pigs addicting. The hatchlings in the new series will be voiced by Kate Micucci, Nasim Pedrad, Harvey Guillén, and Dominic Monaghan.

Head Writer and Executive Producer Eric Rogers is excited to get started on the new series, saying “Working with such a dream team and cast has been the highlight of my career.”

This is not the first time Angry Birds has flown the coop from its mobile roots. The feathered friends have spawned two films already and a third is rumored to come out late next year.

“We’re excited to work with Amazon to add a new chapter to the Hatchlings’ story in Angry Birds: Mystery Island,” said Rovio’s head of brand licensing, Hanna Valkeapää-Nokkala. “I’m sure fans of the Hatchlings will be eager to see them in their own series, with speaking voices for the first time.”

The Hatchlings will premiere on Prime Video and Amazon Kids+. There’s no word yet on when it will be released. Melissa Wolfe, Head of Animation at Amazon Studios said:

“The Angry Birds captivated people of all ages and became a global phenomenon with the debut of their first games, and their cultural presence has remained steadfast. We are excited by the opportunity to expand the Hatchlings’ world into a family series for our global customers to enjoy even more stories around these beloved birds.”
