During today’s Devices & Services live event, Amazon introduced Alexa+. The AI assistant will be able to help users with tasks around the house, from checking emails to covering story time with the kids. Alexa+ can also be used for creating a better user experience on Prime Video and Fire TVs.
With Alexa+ on Fire TV, you’ll get more personalized content recommendations, designed to help you find something you’ll love. Search by genre to see titles in more specific subcategories like Amazon’s examples of Explosive War Epics, High-Octane Car Chases, and Thrilling Heist Adventures.
On Prime Video, Alexa+ can help you get to a specific scene without using the fast forward button. You can describe the scene with things like the character’s name or a quote and Alexa+ will find the scene for you. Amazon used the movie “A Star is Born” to show how it works. They say you can ask Alexa “what’s that movie where Bradley Cooper sings a duet? Jump to that scene…” and your Fire TV will start the scene with Lady Gaga.
Speaking of movie music, Alexa+ can help you find music you liked in a movie, as well as making suggestions for music you might enjoy. You’ll be able to search for a song in a movie without knowing the artist or song title. Ask Alexa to play music from your favorite genre and you’ll also get suggestions for new artists.
The updates will be available when Alexa+ launches in an early access period in the next few weeks. Alexa+ will cost $19.99 per month but will be free for Prime members.
