Alexa is now officially available to anyone with Early Access, including those who have an Alexa+ enabled device or anyone who requests access through the website, giving wider access to Amazon’s new AI chat feature before it becomes available to all Prime members.
Alexa was first announced at Amazon’s February 2025 Devices & Services live event, when CEO Andy Jassy discussed the role that AI will play in Amazon’s future. “We happen to believe that virtually every customer experience that we all know of will be reinvented using generative AI. And altogether new experiences that we only dreamed of before are going to be possible,” Jassy said.
You can use Alexa+ for tasks like booking reservations and calling Ubers, checking sports scores, setting up daily routines, saving recipes, and more. It’s designed to learn from previous commands and conversations to better understand your preferences and favorites, making it more useful day by day.
Alexa+ Availability
To get Early Access to Alexa+, go to this page to buy an eligible device or simply request access. Eligible devices include new versions of Echo devices, Fire TV, and Fire Tablets.
When Early Access ends, Alexa+ will be free for Prime members or $19.99 per month as a standalone subscription.
Alexa+ Updates
Here’s how Amazon describes the upgrades users will notice when using Alexa+ vs. the original Alexa assistant.
- Conversational: Alexa+ engages in natural, flowing conversations that feel genuine. It understands context and meaning, creating seamless interactions with no precise “Alexa” language.
- Personalized: Alexa+ learns from you and the more you use it, the more personalized it gets— understanding everything from your favorite entertainment to your family’s dietary preferences, allergies, and weekly traditions.
- Gets things done: Alexa+ acts on your behalf, handling everything from date planning and gift shopping to travel arrangements and study help. From simple tasks to complex projects, it provides assistance you can trust.
- Even smarter: Alexa+ combines vast knowledge with an approachable personality, making generative AI feel natural and accessible. Helpful intelligence ready whenever and wherever you need it.
Giving Feedback
Early Access customers are encouraged to give feedback on the user experience and features of Alexa+. Amazon says that the feedback will help “refine the experience, improve every interaction, and build something delightfully tuned to you.” When you have something to share, just say “Alexa, I have feedback” to share with Amazon.
