Last August, Amazon rolled out Multi-Room Playback to Alexa Devices. With Whole Home Streaming you can start playing music on one Alexa-powered device and sync the audio to all of your Alexa devices or only the devices you want.
This allows you to have your music synchronized throughout your home as you walk from room to room, giving you an easy to set up wire free home intercom system. Now you can enjoy everything from your favorite book or talk show to your favorite music throughout your home synced together.
In the past, before Multi-Room Playback on Alexa, you would have to manually start each stream and they would often be just slightly off from each other by a few seconds.
When the service first launched, the Multi-Room Playback on Alexa devices only supported Amazon Music. Later it was rolled out to iHeart Radio, Tunein, and more. Now at some point since we last reported on this in August Amazon has added support for SiriusXM and Spotify.
To create a Multi-Room Music group in the Alexa app:
- From the menu, select Smart Home.
- Select Groupsand then Create Groups.
- Select Multi-Room Music Group.
- Use pre-set group names from the drop-down, or create your own with Custom Name.
