A New Walking Dead Spinoff Series is Coming & Gets a Title

Rick and Michonne’s story isn’t over yet. Last year, The Walking Dead franchise announced the pair would star in an upcoming spinoff series. Filming began in February and wrapped up in May – now the title has been revealed.

In The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne, Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira return to their roles in a six episode series debuting on AMC in 2024. The series will conclude the characters story, once thought to be deader than a Walker during a shocking episode of The Walking Dead.

As described by The Walking Dead Fandom, the series will feature “an epic love story of two characters changed by a changed world. Kept apart by distance by an unstoppable power. By the ghosts of who they were, Rick and Michonne are thrown into another world, built on war against the dead… And ultimately, a war against the living. Can they find each other and who they were in a place and situation unlike any they’ve ever known before? Are they enemies? Lovers? Victims? Victors? Without each other, are they even alive – or will they find that they, too, are the Walking Dead?”

A continuation of Rick and Michonne’s bloody journey was set to take place over the course of three films, but that trilogy has long gone out the window. Joining Andrew Lincoln and Danai Gurira in the spinoff series are Lesley-Ann Brandt as Pearl Thorne, Pollyanna McIntosh as Anne, and Terry O’Quinn as Beale.

“These are two people that have been separated for a very long time. They’ve lived whole other existences and they have to find themselves again, let alone each other. It’s hopefully going to be mind-blowing. We see this incredible power couple, but we also see that Red Machete Rick. We see that Michonne who taught a thing or two to the Governor. [The series] kind of goes coast to coast that way between the intimate and the epic and the insane,” said Scott M. Gimple, Chief Content Officer for The Walking Dead franchise as reported by MovieWeb.

The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne is the sixth and latest spinoff series from The Walking Dead universe following Fear the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, Tales of the Walking Dead, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and Daryl Dixon.

The Walking Dead: Dead City premiered on June 18th, 2023. Daryl Dixon will join The Walking Dead: Rick and Michonne on AMC and AMC+ in 2024.
