Last weekend the Fire TV 3, aka the Pendant, went out of stock, which is a classic sign that a new Fire TV is on the way.
AFTVnews.com was the first to report this, pointing out that the third gen Fire TV is listed as In Stock on September 22. Amazon also has the Fire TV Stick on sale for $29.99 and the Fire TV Cube on sale for $89.99.
Amazon often clears out current stock as they make room for new Fire TV models. And Amazon is busy switching production from one Fire TV model to the new model to make sure they have enough stock.
Looking at the history, the Fire TV 3 was first announced on September 27 and released on October 25. So, a new device would line up with the Fire TV 3 going out of stock right now.
What should we expect from Amazon? It is unlikely the Fire TV Cube is being replaced, because it is only a few months old. What is more likely is a new Fire TV Stick that may be replacing both the current Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV 3. It is also possible we will once again get two Fire TVs to have a low-end Fire TV Stick and a mid-range Fire TV 4.
Amazon has traditionally had a high-end and a low-end Fire TV. Yet it is possible Amazon will follow the Roku example and start to offer additional mid-range models. For now, this is an educated guess, but the timing is right for a new Fire TV or two.
