Mickey Mouse horror movie, Mickey's Mouse Trap

A trailer for a Mickey Mouse horror movie — Mickey’s Mouse Trap — dropped on YouTube on Monday when Steamboat Willie — the earliest iteration of the Disney character — entered the public domain.

Mickey isn’t the only character to get the horror treatment once Walt Disney’s copyright expired. In 2022, horror flick Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey released, and before that 2009 saw parody novel Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

“We just wanted to have fun with it all. I mean it’s Steamboat Willie’s Mickey Mouse murdering people. It’s ridiculous. We ran with it and had fun doing it and I think it shows,” Jamie Bailey, the film’s director, said on YouTube.

According to the plot description, Alex is stuck working the late shift at an amusement arcade on her birthday. Her friends plan to surprise her, but a killer in a Mickey Mouse mask quickly turns their night of fun into a fight for survival.

Mickey’s Mouse Trap is expected to release in March.
