A Disney+ Original Takes Nielsen’s Top Movie Spot

Nielsen has released its Top Ten for the week of 5/31/21 – 6/6/21, with Netflix maintaining the top spot for original and acquired content, but Disney+ knocking Netflix out of the top spot for movies with Raya and the Last Dragon.

Lucifer held the top spot for original content for another week with viewing up nearly 40% as the fifth season of the fan favorite show on Netflix came to an end. A new Netflix original, Sweet Tooth, earned the second spot on the list and The Kominsky Method kept a spot in the top three.

Netflix also held the top spot for acquired content with Dirty John, a true crime series which originally aired on USA. Criminal Minds and Grey’s Anatomy once again rounded out the top three.

Finally, Disney+ gave the list a shakeup by taking the top spot on the most watched movies list with Raya and the Last Dragon. The title left Premier Access on June 4, making it free for all Disney+ subscribers. Another Disney+ Premier Access movie, Cruella, took the third spot, just behind Dog Gone Trouble on Netflix.

Nielsen measures viewing on Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, Hulu, and Netflix with top ten lists delayed by about a month due to agreements with streaming services.
