Amazon announced today some new features for controlling your Fire TV with Alexa-enabled devices. With the updates, Fire TV users can ditch the remote and use voice commands to find, launch, and watch content.
Hands-free pairings now enable:
- Echo Show-like experiences: Leverage the biggest screen in your home when using popular Alexa experiences and skills hands-free. Alexa will display visual responses (if your paired Fire TV device is active) when you ask Alexa to view your calendar, smart home cameras, weather updates to-do lists, and more.
- Try: “Alexa, show me the weather,” “Alexa, show me the front door camera,” or “Alexa, show me my to-do list”
- Improved search and navigation: Use voice to find content and navigate throughout the Fire TV experience. For example, you can ask Alexa to search content, navigate search results, or jump to important places like your watch list.
- Try: “Alexa, go back,” “Alexa, scroll right/left,” or “Alexa, go to my Watch List”
To pair your Alexa device with your Fire TV, just tell Alexa to play a title, like “Alexa, play Jack Ryan” and you’ll be prompted to confirm that you want to you’re your Alexa device to control your Fire TV.
