marvel logoThe coronavirus can’t stop these superheroes. While the current health crisis has halted production in the movie industry, Marvel’s first animated series What If…? is still proceeding full steam ahead from home.

Since the Disney+ series is animated, artists, creators and voicing talent can all continue remotely from the individual homes, something animation head Stephan Franck said he often does anyway.

“I normally split my day between my home studio and the Disney lot for dailies and reviews, but now we’re just doing it all remotely,” Franck said. “From what I hear across town, animation has been able to keep the shows in production with everyone safely working from home. Kudos to the studios for pivoting so fast to remote work.”

What If…? is an animated series surrounding possible alternate endings to major events that exist within the Marvel Universe. Many major actors who star in the Marvel movies are returning to voice their animated characters in the series. Jeffrey Wright stars as the Watcher, who narrates the series, with stars like Chris Hemsworth, Chadwick Bozeman, Tom Hiddleston and more all returning to voice their character roles from home recording setups.

So while production for other Marvel films like The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and WandaVision headed to Disney+ have been postponed, What If…? is able to continue as planned with a little adapting. This likely means it’s mid-2021 release date for season one won’t be affected. The first season is set to have 10 episodes, with a second season has already confirmed.
