YouTube TV is a video streaming service that lets viewers watch live TV, with a cable-like channel guide. With a subscription to the base package, you’ll get over 100 live channels and the option to add more channels for an additional monthly fee.
The service launched in April 2017, broadcasting national networks and a variety of entertainment, news, and sports channels to people in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco. The service is now available nationwide.
YouTube TV Plans and Pricing
The YouTube TV Base plan costs $82.99 per month and includes a full lineup of over 100 channels.
YouTube TV also began rolling out a slate of new plans in February 2026. Those plans include:
- Sports Plan: $64.99 per month
- Sports + News Plan: $71.99/month
- Entertainment Plan: $54.99/month

Here’s a little more about each of those plans.

This one includes the major broadcasters (ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox) and sports networks including FS1, NBC Sports Network, all of the ESPN networks, and ESPN Unlimited (coming this fall). When football season starts up, you’ll be able to add Sunday Ticket to this plan (with an additional monthly cost.)

YouTube TV Channels and Add Ons
Overall, the YouTube TV live TV channel lineup is solid when compared to competitors like Hulu + Live TV and Fubo. The lineup includes local channels and top cable channels like ESPN, HGTV, NFL Network, CNN, and Fox News.
YouTube TV does not include most Regional Sports Networks (RSNs).
For subscribers who want more content, there’s always the option to add on premium channels. There are over 50 add on options including Starz, Hallmark+, HBO Max, Paramount+, and more.
YouTube TV Features
Cloud DVR
YouTube TV’s Cloud DVR feature allows subscribers to record an unlimited amount of shows, movies, and events and store those recordings for up to nine months.
Users and Permissions
YouTube TV subscribers can create six user profiles per account, with each receiving personalized show recommendations and a customizable live guide. Each user profile also gets its own space for recording content, and YouTube TV enables users to watch on three simultaneous streams.

Parental Controls
Users can place restrictions on who can watch what, such as limiting children’s viewing to content from the Kids Hub. They can also manage content access by turning on the “Allow TV-Y, TV-G, G, and PG only” setting. The service permits subscribers to block content and turn off search options.
Offline Viewing
The service does have a downside. Unlike YouTube Premium, it does not have offline viewing capabilities, although the YouTube TV app is supported on mobile devices. If subscribers are away from a Wi-Fi network, mobile data is needed to watch live streams.
Is YouTube TV Right for You?
YouTube TV is an appealing option for people looking to cut cable and save money every month without losing out of their favorite channels. The streaming service includes the top entertainment, lifestyle, news, and sports channels, and gives the option to enhance the lineup with premium add ons.
The service also provides a solid user experience. This includes unlimited cloud DVR storage for nine months — a perk no other live streaming service can match. Users can also personalize their account with up to six profiles, restrict the content that is available to specific individual viewers, and take advantage of three simultaneous streams.
