Comcast has successfully completed a significant network expansion project in Virginia, marking another milestone in the company’s efforts to bring reliable high-speed internet to underserved areas across Virginia. This latest initiative connects more than 1,000 additional homes and businesses in the county, contributing to a larger wave of expansions that have provided service to over 15,000 new locations throughout the state in recent years, according to a report from WDBJ.

The project specifically targets residents in the town of Altavista as well as neighborhoods in northern Campbell County along Eastbrook Road and Old Rustburg Road. With the completion of construction, these areas now have access to Xfinity residential services and Comcast Business solutions. Customers can take advantage of high-speed internet along with mobile, entertainment, and smart home technologies powered by America’s smartest and most reliable converged WiFi network.

This advanced network infrastructure supports a wide range of modern digital activities. Households can engage in seamless video streaming, online gaming, and virtual meetings without interruption. For families, the connectivity facilitates remote learning opportunities and access to educational resources. In the healthcare sector, residents benefit from telehealth services that allow consultations with medical professionals from the comfort of their homes, reducing the need for travel to distant facilities.

Local businesses in the newly served areas gain critical tools for growth and competitiveness. High-speed internet enables efficient e-commerce operations, cloud-based software applications, and real-time communication with customers and suppliers worldwide. Small enterprises that previously struggled with slow or unreliable connections can now fully participate in the digital economy, potentially leading to job creation and economic development in these rural and suburban communities.

The Campbell County expansion builds upon previous investments by Comcast in the region. In 2024, the company connected thousands of additional homes and businesses across the Lynchburg area, including a substantial portion in Campbell County. Ongoing projects in nearby localities such as Bedford, where more than 4,500 connections are planned, Buchanan with more than 750 planned, and Radford with nearly 10,000 planned further demonstrate the commitment to broadband deployment. Collectively, these initiatives have extended service to well over 15,000 new homes and businesses, addressing long-standing gaps in digital access.

Comcast’s approach includes not only expanding the physical network but also offering customer-friendly options. New subscribers in the expanded areas receive a five-year price guarantee on their internet plans, providing cost predictability. Additionally, qualifying customers can receive a free line of Xfinity Mobile service for one year, encouraging the adoption of integrated connectivity solutions across devices.

The importance of such expansions cannot be overstated in an era where internet access has become as fundamental as traditional utilities. Broadband availability influences everything from property values to community vitality. Areas with robust internet infrastructure tend to attract new residents, particularly those working remotely, and support existing populations in maintaining connections to the wider world. For Campbell County officials and residents, this development represents a step forward in enhancing the quality of life and fostering inclusive growth.

As construction wraps up in Campbell County, attention turns to the positive impacts already being felt. Families are exploring new entertainment options, students are excelling in digital coursework, and entrepreneurs are launching or expanding ventures that rely on fast, dependable online services. The converged network technology ensures that multiple devices can operate simultaneously at high performance levels, meeting the demands of today’s multi-device households.

Comcast continues to invest in fiber-optic and advanced cable technologies to future-proof its infrastructure. These upgrades position the served communities for emerging technologies such as smart home automation, Internet of Things applications, and potentially higher-speed requirements in the years ahead. The company’s Virginia investment is apart of a larger push to expand their networks.
