DIRECTV announced a major expansion of the MiEspañol Spanish-language genre pack.
Telemundo affiliates in 82 Markets are being added to the genre pack, giving DIRECTV customers in those markets the ability to stream Telemundo content for the first time. With the expansion, MiEspañol will reach around 98% of all U.S. Hispanic TV homes.
The expansion is already rolling out in areas including Atlanta, Austin, Seattle, Portland, Charlotte, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Oklahoma City, Kansas City, and New Orleans. Approximately 20 new areas will be added weekly through mid-May.
The MiEspañol expansion is coming just in time for viewers to catch Spanish coverage of the FIFA World Cup. The tournament begins on June 11. Telemundo is the exclusive Spanish-language home for World Cup coverage. The channel will air 92 of the 104 matches from June 11 to July 19, with the remaining 12 on Universo.
DIRECTV released a new ad campaign ahead of the expansion, focusing on the sports offerings in the MiEspañol package. In the “Breadth of Sports” ad, Marc Crosas, a former Spanish professional footballer and TUDN analyst, joins DIRECTV brand ambassador and TV Host and Actress Adamari López to showcase DIRECTV’s sports content.
