WrestleMania Weekend is approaching, and YouTube TV subscribers will have to find a different way to gain ESPN Unlimited access to watch “The Show of Shows.” According to a new report from Sports Business Journal, YouTube TV users won’t be able to access ESPN Unlimited through the ESPN app in time for WrestleMania 42 this weekend.
According to SBJ, YouTube TV’s integration with ESPN’s direct-to-consumer service is not fully operational, specifically when it comes to app authentication. SBJ said Google is still working through technical issues and expects the authentication problem to be fixed ahead of SummerSlam.
A major blow off the top rope for YouTube TV subscribers, as WrestleMania is one of the most anticipated sports entertainment events of the year. This year’s two-night event, airing live from Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, is the first Mania to air on ESPN under a new multi-year rights deal. Fortunately for subscribers, the first hour of each night is set to stream on ESPN’s linear networks. ESPN2 and ESPN are set to air WrestleMania 42 Night 1 and Night 2, respectively.
The ESPN-WWE partnership just passed the half-year mark and has left wrestling fans frustrated with trying to access the PLEs. Back in September, WWE Wrestlepalooza, the promotion’s inaugural event on the platform, had many scrambling for ways to watch.
Since the PLE sat inside ESPN’s standalone app, and automatic TV-provider login hadn’t rolled out to many major distributors, some ESPN linear subscribers had to “double pay” to watch. This led to legal trouble, with a class-action complaint alleging WWE and ESPN confused fans during the streaming shift by making it seem like all ESPN access would carry over, when many viewers later found they needed ESPN Unlimited instead.
ESPN Unlimited is still coming to YouTube TV
Though full coverage of “The Showcase of the Immortals” won’t be available for subscribers, the bigger picture has not changed. It was previously reported that ESPN Unlimited’s YouTube TV rollout will take place later this fall. Access to the app will be included as part of the service’s newer Sports Plan.
The Sports plan, which launched last month, costs $64.99 per month for existing customers and $54.99 per month for new customers during the first year before rising to the then-current price. The Sports Plan is a skinny bundle and includes the major broadcast networks, national sports networks, including ESPN’s linear channels, and full access to ESPN Unlimited.
The rollout of YouTube TV’s skinny bundles and eventual ESPN Unlimited integration comes after a carriage fight led to a 15-day blackout in late 2025. The dispute temporarily removed Disney-owned channels, and it was reported that ESPN took a $110 million hit in operating income.
Ways YouTube TV Subscribers Can Watch WrestleMania 42 Live
If you want ESPN Unlimited access before the bell rings inside the squared circle at WrestleMania 42, several live TV streaming services support ESPN authentication.
Major services, including DIRECTV, Fubo, and Hulu + Live TV, feature a robust channel lineup, DVR, and other modern features, and ESPN Unlimited access you can activate through a provider login.
For $29.99 per month, you can subscribe to ESPN Unlimited directly and stream WrestleMania and much more.
However, baseball fans can lock in a one-month free trial of ESPN Unlimited with the purchase of MLB.TV. The bundle is for new subscribers and includes out-of-market regular-season games on MLB.TV and access to ESPN’s content, adding more value for the $29.99 for the first month. If you decide after the trial that it isn’t right for you, you can still cancel and keep your MLB.TV subscription without the ESPN Unlimited access.
For now, YouTube TV subscribers are stuck in the middle of a bigger streaming transition. Since ESPN app authentication will not be ready in time for “The Grandest Stage of Them All,” subscribers will have to search for alternate ways to watch before the bell rings on Saturday and Sunday.
