NBC News NOW, the free streaming news channel from NBC News, is set to significantly expand its daily live programming, increasing to 14 hours of continuous coverage on weekdays and unveiling a brand-new studio to support its growing audience. This comes at a time when an increasing number of Americans are getting their news from free options like NBC News Now.
The streaming service will soon broadcast live from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. ET on weekdays, marking a substantial increase in original content and positioning NBC News NOW as the streaming news platform with the most live hours each day. This expansion comes as the channel experiences strong momentum in viewership, with the first quarter of the year marking its most-watched period in the past 12 months. March stood out as the strongest month since June 2025, driven by heightened interest in breaking news events. Just last week, the channel’s coverage of the Artemis landing drew its largest Friday primetime audience to date, demonstrating the platform’s ability to attract viewers during major national and international stories. In many breaking news situations, NBC News NOW has even surpassed the ratings of more established cable news networks, underscoring a clear shift in how audiences consume live news.
Central to the expansion is the launch of a new two-hour program scheduled to debut this summer at 10 a.m. ET. The show will be anchored by veteran journalist Christine Romans, who will also assume the role of Chief Business Correspondent for NBC News. This appointment recognizes Romans’ extensive experience and reputation as one of the most reliable voices in financial and economic journalism. Her new responsibilities will include deepening coverage of economic developments, market movements, and the broader forces influencing the global economy—topics that have become increasingly prominent in the daily news cycle.
Romans brings a wealth of expertise to the position. She has a proven ability to explain complex financial stories with clarity, whether covering inflation trends, potential government shutdowns, the economic consequences of international conflicts, or the evolving dynamics of modern industries. Throughout her career, she has secured interviews with prominent chief executives and key figures across multiple sectors. Before joining NBC News, Romans anchored CNN’s Early Start and built a strong track record of delivering breaking news and in-depth financial reporting during early morning hours. At NBC, she has continued to contribute to major stories at the start of the business day while collaborating closely with the network’s Business and Economy Unit.
The timing of the new program aligns with the opening of financial markets and the unfolding of top economic stories, allowing NBC News NOW to provide more comprehensive analysis and context for viewers navigating an increasingly interconnected world economy. By expanding its business and economic coverage, the streaming channel aims to meet growing audience demand for timely, insightful reporting on issues that directly affect daily life, from personal finances to global trade.
In addition to the extended programming hours and new show, NBC News NOW will relocate to a state-of-the-art facility known as Studio 3A at 30 Rockefeller Plaza. The modern studio space is specifically designed to enhance live broadcasts and accommodate the evolving needs of streaming news production. Features of the new studio are expected to include advanced technology for seamless integration of graphics, remote reporting, and multi-platform distribution, helping the channel deliver higher-quality visuals and more dynamic presentations to its digital audience.
With these changes, NBC News NOW aims not only to grow its audience but also to raise the standard for what free streaming news can deliver—more hours of live, original journalism, sharper focus on critical economic stories, and a modern production environment that leverages the latest technology to keep viewers informed throughout the day. The expansion underscores the network’s confidence in the future of digital news consumption and its determination to lead in that space.
