MeTV, America’s leading network for classic television entertainment, has announced a major addition to its programming lineup: the beloved sitcom The Golden Girls will make its triumphant return to broadcast television starting Monday, March 16, 2026. This marks the first time the iconic series has aired over-the-air since its last broadcast in 1997, nearly three decades ago.

The show will be featured prominently in MeTV’s schedule. Weeknights from Monday through Friday, viewers can enjoy two back-to-back episodes from 10:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. ET/PT. On Sundays, beginning March 22, the series will air at 6:00 p.m. ET/PT, followed by a two-hour prime-time block from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. This placement integrates The Golden Girls seamlessly alongside other comedy staples, enhancing MeTV’s evening lineup of timeless favorites.

Created by Susan Harris and originally airing on NBC from 1985 to 1992, The Golden Girls remains one of the most acclaimed sitcoms in television history. The series earned 68 Emmy nominations and 11 wins during its seven-season run, captivating audiences with its sharp writing, heartfelt storytelling, and groundbreaking portrayal of mature women. It centered on four vibrant women sharing a home in Miami: the quick-witted Dorothy Zbornak (Bea Arthur), the innocently optimistic Rose Nylund (Betty White), the charming and flirtatious Blanche Devereaux (Rue McClanahan), and Dorothy’s feisty mother, Sophia Petrillo (Estelle Getty). Sophia’s unforgettable one-liners and no-nonsense attitude quickly made her a fan favorite.

What set the show apart was its willingness to address topics rarely explored in sitcoms of the era, including aging, death, racism, mental health, and sexuality—all handled with warmth, humor, and unflinching honesty. Rather than shying away from life’s complexities, the series celebrated the vitality, sexuality, and independence of its leading ladies, presenting them as fully engaged in life and love. This approach contributed to its enduring appeal across generations, turning it into a cultural phenomenon that continues to resonate today through memes, merchandise, fan conventions, and endless streaming rewatches.

Neal Sabin, vice-chairman of Weigel Broadcasting Co., which owns MeTV, expressed enthusiasm for the addition. “The popularity of The Golden Girls is unlike that of almost any other comedy in television history – sharply written and distinctive for portraying and celebrating mature leading female characters as vital, engaged, sexy and downright funny,” Sabin said. “The show is a phenomenon, spanning all corners of pop culture and fan appreciation. It is a true honor to bring the series back to broadcast television as part of MeTV’s lineup, where viewers of all ages can tune-in and enjoy this truly memorable and entertaining series.”

MeTV, known for its “Memorable Entertainment Television” branding, boasts a library of over 60 classic series that air weekly, drawing viewers who cherish nostalgia and quality storytelling. The Golden Girls joins a strong weeknight comedy block that includes Everybody Loves Raymond at 9:00 p.m., The Andy Griffith Show at 8:00 p.m., multiple episodes of MASH earlier in the evening, and The Carol Burnett Show at 11:00 p.m. Sundays will feature the new arrival alongside other favorites like MASH, Everybody Loves Raymond, All in the Family, Hogan’s Heroes, and The Honeymooners.
