It looks like your HDR TV will soon have one more option for high-quality video streaming. Today Yonhap News a South Korean newsgroup reported that Amazon will start streaming 100 TV shows and movies in HDR10+ including “The Grand Tour,” “The Tick” and “The Man in the High Castle.” According to reports, Amazon plans to add HDR10+ additional titles in the future.
The new HDR10+ standard will bring improved images over standard HDR10 quality. By adding dynamic metadata that cam used to more accurately adjust brightness levels on a scene-by-scene or even frame-by-frame basis HDR10+ offers a superior image.
According to reports, HDR10+ will be very close to Dolby Vision HDR a standard many consider to be the best image quality on the market today. The benefits of HDR10+ for manufacturers though is the freedom of using it without having to pay licensing fees as HDR10+ is an open standard that anyone can use.
Samsung Electronics has been a huge proponent of HDR10+ and it is said that Amazon will first roll out HDR10+ on Samsung smart TV this week. Samsung has already partnered with 20th Century Fox and Panasonic Corp in their efforts to promote HDR10+.
