Update YouTube has confirmed that it has fixed the issue and tells customers to restart their apps.
As the roar of packed stadiums echoed across the country on this crisp autumn Sunday, a digital silence fell over millions of NFL enthusiasts relying on YouTube’s NFL Sunday Ticket service. Subscribers to YouTube TV and the standalone YouTube platform awoke to a nightmare: their premium access to out-of-market games had vanished into a void of black screens and endless buffering, turning what should have been a celebration of gridiron glory into a torrent of frustration and missed touchdowns.
The outage struck without warning just as Week 3 kicked off, affecting users from coast to coast. Reports flooded social media platforms with subscribers describing a consistent pattern of failure. On the YouTube mobile app, fans could navigate to the Sunday Ticket menu and select from the slate of afternoon matchups, only to be met with an impenetrable black void upon clicking play. Desktop browsers fared no better, with streams stalling at loading icons that mocked the impatience of die-hard supporters. Even those bundled with YouTube TV’s base package, which promises seamless integration of the $276 seasonal add-on, found their devices unresponsive, forcing many to scramble for alternative viewing options like local broadcasts or overpriced bar tabs.
This is not the first hiccup for the service since YouTube secured the exclusive streaming rights in a landmark $14 billion deal back in 2022, but it arrives at a particularly inopportune moment. The 2025 season, now in its third week, has already seen heightened expectations following YouTube’s introduction of flexible month-to-month pricing at $85 per installment for new users. Returning subscribers, locked into the full-season commitment of up to $480, felt the sting even deeper, as the platform’s technical woes robbed them of the multiview features they had eagerly anticipated for tracking multiple rivalries at once.
For YouTube this marks the first major issue with its NFL Sunday Ticket after years of streaming without issues.
