With Amazon and Roku both frequently releasing new and improved streaming devices, Google TV has fallen behind in terms of updates, with the interface not seeing major changes since 2020.
First shared by 9to5 Google, a new update has changed the Google TV navigation bar. The bar now only has options for Home, Live, and Apps, along with the search icon. The For You tab has been replaced by “Home” and the Library tab has been relocated.
Users will notice that when they click on their profile, they’ll get a dropdown menu to navigate to Watchlist, Library, Your services, and Content, where they can update preferences and settings.
Not all users are seeing the update yet. Google may be testing with a smaller group of users before rolling the update out to every Google TV.
Just last month, sources at Google said the company is struggling with whether it can compete in the streaming market. As the company weighs whether to invest or change course, this small update is a sign that they haven’t given up on their streaming platform just yet.
