Comic fans rejoice, the Last Son of Krypton is making his way to HBO Max after DC head honcho James Gunn tweeted the release date for Superman. Beginning on Friday, September 19, cord cutters can watch all of the action when the Man of Steel saves Metropolis and beyond from the comfort of their own home. In just a few days, those who missed it during its theatrical run, or want to rewatch, can stream Superman on Roku, Fire TV, Apple TV, or any other compatible device with an HBO Max subscription.
With a gross of about $615 million worldwide at the box office, Gunn’s take on Superman was a strong commercial success. Domestically, the film was a summer hit and was one of the most successful adaptations of the Man of Tomorrow in modern times. Compared to past Superman movies, the 2025 entry looks to restore the hero’s legacy to that of Christopher Reeve’s original 1974 film. It isn’t the highest-grossing Superman movie to hit the big screen, but Gunn’s adaptation has given fans hope after recent DC misfires.
For its HBO Max release, users will notice the Superman takeover, giving the app a unique user experience. The app tie-in will feature a Daily Planet Homepage with a newspaper theme. The American Sign Language (ASL) version of the film will also stream exclusively within the app. HBO Max will also have a Fortress of Solitude theme and Lex Luthor’s Pocket Prison of hidden portals throughout the homepage.
