After 34 years E! News, the iconic half-hour show that has been a staple of pop culture coverage since 1991, will air its final episode on September 25, 2025. The decision comes from Versant, the newly formed company overseeing E! and other former NBCUniversal cable networks, marking its first major programming move since its inception earlier this year per a report by Deadline. The announcement was made to the show’s staff of approximately 20 employees on the morning of July 24, 2025, with some potentially being offered new roles within Versant, while others are expected to depart.
The cancellation of E! News, which currently airs at 11:30 p.m., reflects the evolving landscape of media consumption. With audiences increasingly turning to smartphones and social media platforms for their daily dose of celebrity gossip, operating a nightly news broadcast has become increasingly challenging. The move is not entirely unexpected, as the industry continues to pivot toward digital-first strategies to meet viewers where they are—on platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Despite the end of the nightly show, the E! News brand will continue to thrive in the digital space. The brand has seen remarkable growth on social media, boasting 87 million followers across platforms. Notably, video views on Instagram have surged by 49%, and TikTok views have risen by 52% in the past year. E! News will focus on its digital offerings, including popular shows like The Rundown on Snapchat, Hot Goss on Instagram, and RE!CAP on YouTube, ensuring the brand remains a dominant force in celebrity news.
Currently hosted by Keltie Knight and Justin Sylvester, E! News has been a cornerstone of E!’s programming, delivering breaking celebrity stories and red-carpet coverage for over three decades. The show previously faced cancellation in 2020 but was revived after a two-year hiatus, only to now face its final curtain call. Meanwhile, E!’s other programming, including Botched Presents: Plastic Surgery Rewind, Honestly Cavallari: The Headline Tour, and upcoming shows like Kimora: Back in the Fab Lane and E!’s Dirty Rotten Scandals, will continue as planned. Competing programs like Access Hollywood and Access Daily will also remain unaffected.
The decision underscores Versant’s strategic pivot to adapt to modern viewing habits, prioritizing agile, digital-first content over traditional linear broadcasts. As the media landscape continues to evolve, E! News’s legacy as a pioneer in celebrity journalism will endure through its robust online presence, keeping fans connected to the latest in Hollywood glamour and gossip.
