Walmart is soaring to new heights with the expansion of its drone delivery service, bringing ultra-fast delivery to millions of customers across five states: Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and Texas. The retailer announced that shoppers in Atlanta, Charlotte, Houston, Orlando, and Tampa will soon join those in Dallas-Fort Worth and Northwest Arkansas in accessing this innovative service, which promises delivery in 30 minutes or less. This move positions Walmart as the first major retailer to scale drone delivery across multiple states, reinforcing its leadership in technology-driven retail solutions.

The expansion will see drone delivery services launched at 100 Walmart stores, building on existing operations in Northwest Arkansas and the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. Through a partnership with Wing, a leading drone delivery provider, Walmart aims to deliver a fast, efficient, and sustainable service. Wing’s drones operate within Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidelines, flying Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) up to a 6-mile range from stores. This allows customers to receive thousands of products, from groceries to health and wellness items, directly at their doorstep with unprecedented speed.

This comes as Amazon has also tested drone deliveres as Walmart and Amazon fight for your subscription dolars.

Walmart’s drone delivery program, which began in 2021, has already completed over 150,000 deliveries. Popular items include fresh fruit like bananas and lemons, Great Value eggs, ice cream, pet food, and urgent care products such as over-the-counter cold medicine and baby formula. The service caters to customers seeking quick solutions for forgotten grocery items or immediate needs, enhancing convenience for busy households.

Greg Cathey, senior vice president of Walmart U.S. Transformation and Innovation, emphasized the company’s commitment to redefining retail. “Drone delivery is a key part of our vision to make shopping faster and easier. This expansion marks a significant milestone in leveraging technology to enhance our delivery offerings with a focus on speed,” he said.

Customers in the newly added cities can sign up for notifications about service availability at wing.com/walmart, while Dallas-Fort Worth residents can check eligibility at wing.com/dfw. The expansion also incorporates advanced drone technology, with partners like Zipline operating quieter drones at select Texas locations, further improving the delivery experience.

Walmart’s drone delivery is part of a broader suite of time-saving options, including Express Delivery, Late-Night Delivery, and InHome Delivery, which brings items directly to customers’ refrigerators. As the retailer continues to innovate, this milestone underscores its dedication to transforming the shopping experience, setting a new standard for speed and flexibility in retail.
