The Golden State Valkyries are the WNBA’s first team in the Bay Area and second in Northern California after the Sacramento Monarchs folded in 1997. The Valkyries play their home games in San Francisco at Chase Center, the home of the Golden State Warriors.
Headquartered in Oakland, the Valkyries joined the league in 2025, making them the first expansion team since the Atlanta Dream in 2008. In the 2025 WNBA Draft, the Valkyries made history with their selection of Lithuanian wing Justė Jocytė, who was the first player ever picked by the franchise.
