Tonight, the future of football is on display during the 2025 NFL Draft, but the on-field action won’t begin until the NFL Hall of Fame Game. In the birthplace of the league, the Detroit Lions will host the Los Angeles Chargers at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio, on Thursday, July 31.
The game will cap off what is expected to be an exciting Enshrinement Week with NBC Sports covering the action on the gridiron. Airing on NBC and streaming on Peacock, the preseason matchup will be covered by the broadcast team of Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Cris Collinsworth (analyst), Melissa Stark (sideline reporter), and Terry McAulay (rules analyst).
“This game features two teams that can be considered legitimate contenders to reach Super Bowl LX next February,” said Jim Porter, president & CEO of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. “For them to face each other right out of the gate in Canton, Ohio, should create a dynamic opening to another spectacular NFL season.”
Both teams aren’t strangers to the Hall of Fame Game, each sporting losing records in the inaugural matchup of the NFL season. The Lions are 1-2 (20-3 L to Washington in 1965; 10-7 L to Denver in 1976; 14-3 W to Denver in 19910) and the Chargers are 0-1-1 (0-0 T with Green Bay in 1980; 21-17 L to Atlanta in 1994). The Chargers-Packers 1980 contest was a tie due to the game being called during a severe storm midway through the fourth quarter.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2025 includes Chargers legend Antonio Gates, Eric Allen, Jared Allen, and Sterling Sharpe. Before the game begins, each member will be introduced, and their enshrinement will take place on Saturday, August 2.
The Lions vs. Chargers in the 2025 Hall of Fame Game can be streamed on NBC via DIRECTV, Fubo, Hulu + Live TV, Sling TV, YouTube TV, and live on Peacock.
