Xiaomi has officially announced its latest streaming device, the Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen), a Google TV-powered player promising enhanced performance and premium viewing features, as announced on the company’s website this week. While the reveal has sparked excitement among tech enthusiasts—as a potential to rival Chromecast and Fire TV—the device is not yet available for purchase, with Xiaomi remaining silent on an official launch date, pricing, and specific market availability. The timing aligns with a competitive streaming landscape.
The Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) builds on its 2023 predecessor, boasting a 64-bit quad-core A55 CPU with a 25% CPU performance boost and a 130% GPU improvement, clocking up to 2.5GHz, paired with 2GB RAM and 32GB storage. It supports 4K UHD at 60fps with Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and Dolby Atmos, delivering what Xiaomi calls a “cinematic” experience—ideal for streaming Doctor Who (20 years since its 2005 return) or Quantum Leap (36 years since its 1989 debut). The device also features Wi-Fi 6 for faster playback, a 360° Bluetooth remote with Google Assistant, and access to over 10,000 apps via Google TV, including Netflix and YouTube, with personalized profiles for each user. Its sleek, pebble-like design measures 97 x 97 x 17 mm, slightly larger than the 2nd Gen’s footprint.
The 2nd Gen launched at €69.99 in Europe and $69.99 in the U.S., suggesting a similar price point, but Xiaomi’s global site offers no specifics, only noting that “product images and specs are for reference” and may vary by market.
Xiaomi’s TV Box S (3rd Gen) promises to elevate streaming with its 6nm high-performance platform, but without a launch timeline, consumers are left waiting.
