YouTube TV DVR Glitch Leaves Users Frustrated as Recordings Vanish and Ads Take Over

YouTube TV subscribers across the United States are grappling with a perplexing glitch in the platform’s acclaimed DVR system, with some reporting that their new recordings have mysteriously disappeared, replaced by video-on-demand (VOD) vwith unskippable ads. The issue, which began surfacing earlier this week is impacting some recently DVR recordings. The glitch appears to hit only some recent recordings over the last few days.

The glitch appears to affect a subset of YouTube TV’s millions of subscribers, with impacted users noticing that shows and events scheduled for recording are no longer appearing in their DVR libraries. Instead, when attempting to access these programs, they are directed to VOD versions—pre-recorded editions provided by networks that, unlike DVR recordings, do not allow users to fast-forward through commercials. This shift has turned what was once a seamless, ad-skipping experience into a frustrating ordeal for affected customers, many of whom took to social media to vent their dismay.

The DVR feature has long been a selling point for YouTube TV, distinguishing it from competitors like Hulu + Live TV and Sling TV with its promise of unlimited storage and a nine-month retention period for recordings included with your subscirption. This glitch, however, undermines that advantage, particularly as unskippable ads—a rarity in DVR playback—erode the user experience. Some speculate the issue may stem from a backend processing delay or a metadata error, though YouTube TV has not disclosed the root cause.

For now, affected users are left with few workarounds beyond waiting for a fix or watching live broadcasts when possible.
