Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc. has recently solidified its commitment to broadening the reach of its popular multicast networks through a new distribution agreement with Nexstar, according to an announcement today. The agreement renews and extends the clearances for Sinclair’s four over-the-air multicast television networks—Comet, CHARGE!, TBD, and The Nest—adding significant viewership in major U.S. cities including Chicago, Kansas City, Denver, and Sacramento.
The deal amplifies the networks’ availability to over 15 million additional U.S. households, ensuring comprehensive national coverage in strategic markets with prime channel placements. This expansion is a testament to Sinclair’s strategy to cater to diverse viewer preferences with a robust lineup of programming.
CHARGE! – Known for its high-octane police procedurals, CHARGE! has successfully renewed agreements with several Nexstar stations, including WJZY-3 in Charlotte, WJW-4 in Cleveland, WNOL-4 in New Orleans, and WXIN-4 in Indianapolis. The network will also expand to two new markets, with KRBK-3 in Springfield, MO, and KWGN-3 in Denver starting its broadcast on April 1, 2025. This expansion brings CHARGE! into 23 of the Top 25 DMAs, ensuring fans of crime and action series like “Law & Order: Criminal Intent” and “CSI: Miami” have easy access to their favorite shows.
Comet – The go-to network for science fiction and fantasy enthusiasts, Comet has renewed its agreements with stations such as WNOL-3 in New Orleans, WTTV-3 in Indianapolis, WJW-3 in Cleveland, and KGBT-3 in Harlingen. With offerings like “The X-Files” and “Stargate SG-1,” Comet continues to be a haven for fans of the genre, culminating in its annual fan festival, CometFest.
TBD – A network that prides itself on comedy, TBD has secured renewals for distribution in Kansas City on WDAF-4 and in Sacramento on KTXL-4. This network brings laughter into homes with shows like “Saturday Night Live,” “Key & Peele,” and “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”, catering to viewers looking for light-hearted entertainment.
The Nest – Offering what Sinclair describes as “comfort food TV,” The Nest focuses on factual reality series, celebrity-driven shows, and true crime. With its latest expansion to Chicago on WGN (9.5), The Nest now enjoys prime, full-power over-the-air coverage in the top 10 DMAs. Shows like “Dog the Bounty Hunter,” “Ice Road Truckers,” and “Cold Case Files” are now accessible to a broader audience, providing compelling narrative-driven content.
Lee Schlazer, SVP of Distribution at Sinclair, commented on the deal, saying, “The expanded distribution agreement with Nexstar marks a significant milestone in our efforts to bring Sinclair’s multicast networks to even more viewers nationwide. With the addition of key markets like Chicago and continued renewals across critical stations, we are strengthening our commitment to delivering high-quality, diverse programming that resonates with audiences of all ages. This is just the beginning as we continue to grow the reach of Comet, CHARGE!, TBD, and The Nest.”
This strategic partnership not only broadens the viewer base for Sinclair’s networks but also reaffirms their commitment to providing entertainment that spans various tastes and genres, ensuring that there’s something for everyone in the American television landscape.
