Disney+ is taking a major step towards becoming a one-stop shop for entertainment with the launch of a dedicated ESPN hub within its streaming platform. This new addition provides subscribers with seamless access to ESPN+ sports content, alongside Disney+’s existing library of movies, shows, and family programming.

Building on the success of integrated offerings like Hulu on Disney+ in the U.S. and Star+ on Disney+ in Latin America, this latest integration aims to provide a more unified and comprehensive streaming experience.

“This launch really puts a cherry on top of a fantastic year of innovation at Disney+,” said Alisa Bowen, President of Disney+. “Earlier in the year, we made Hulu available in the Disney+ app, and now we’re doing the same for ESPN+. This gives our bundle subscribers one place to consume everything they love from all our brands.”

What to Expect

Subscribers to the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+ bundle in the U.S. will now find an ESPN tile within the Disney+ app, granting them access to a wealth of sports content, including:

  • Live Events: Over 5,000 live events in the first 90 days alone, featuring NFL, NBA, NHL, college basketball, and the Australian Open.
  • Original Programming: New and classic content from ESPN, including 30 for 30 documentaries and ESPN Original Series.
  • Extensive Sports Coverage: Access to over 30,000 live sporting events annually, spanning MLB, WNBA, college sports, tennis, golf, and more.
  • On-Demand Content: A library of replays, highlights, and studio programming.

Benefits for Standalone Subscribers

Even Disney+ standalone subscribers will benefit from this integration. A curated selection of live sports events, studio shows, and ESPN Films will be available to all Disney+ users, offering a taste of the ESPN+ experience and encouraging upgrades to the bundle.

This includes access to unique events like “The Simpsons Funday Football” animated Monday Night Football game, a Christmas Day NBA lineup, select 30 for 30 documentaries, and coverage of the Australian Open. Additionally, standalone subscribers will also have access to a curated collection of movies and shows from Hulu.

Laying the Groundwork for Future Expansion

The launch of the ESPN hub on Disney+ not only enhances the current streaming experience but also sets the stage for a more extensive sports offering in the future. Disney plans to launch ESPN’s flagship direct-to-consumer product in the fall of 2025, which will further expand the availability of live sports content on Disney+.

“There’s nothing like live sports,” said John Lasker, Senior Vice President of ESPN+. “Live sports are storytelling in real time. They’re community, they bring people together for shared experiences that last lifetimes and generations. ESPN’s unrivaled portfolio of live rights will deliver for sports fans on Disney+.”

This move signifies Disney’s commitment to consolidating its streaming offerings and providing a comprehensive entertainment experience for subscribers, with sports now playing a central role in its strategy.
